The memory of the whole summer is enveloped in one of those golden hazes of youth. I have fond memories of the TLC given to me by counselors. I am saddened to hear the place no longer exists as a camp. I was astounded by the special “nature counselor,” who camped outside in a tent in very primitive style. In one room were black and which German Expressionist prints. In the second room were local amateur watercolors. I couldn't keep them in the German Expressionist room. They loved the watercolors. It was about fine pastries vs Hostess Cupcakes. But I see Eric's point too, that in the end, we shouldn't like something because the critics have said it is good, and vice versa. We should like it because it speaks to us. A curator from MOMA once said, "Art should make you think and feel, and hopefully take you to a place you haven't been." That's been my favorite definition of art.Kim Mosleyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17658600791743162004noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5025335068250127006.post-21860800618078607342018-01-03T00:07:51.358-05:002018-01-03T00:07:51.358-05:00A fun read, Barbara. I am still close with quite a few of my high school (Weehawken, NJ) friends and even some from elementary school. Our closest friends are the ones with a "history" involving us. 60th coming up next year and they're going to try and hold it in Florida. It was quite an experience to talk more with classmates than I had done in high school. It was more than high school. Some of us had been together since nursery school. Now a small group of us have had a Google Group going for 4 years. Sometimes we work together to remember events. And I started another Google Group for the class. Next year our 55th will be coming up. I will probably go. Oh... the only other one I went to was my 20th. I was amazed how beautiful everyone turned out. One problem is that most of the people I would want to see won't be there, and many of those I would rather not see will no doubt attend. Classmates I haven't stayed in touch with for 50 years will no doubt remember the me who was 20 years old, and some didn't really like me then. Hey, I didn't really like myself then either. But shouldn't there be a statue of limitations on impressions of who people are? I have spent the last 50 years working hard to understand myself, to be more forgiving, and to forge a happier and supportive life for me and my family.

Instead of going to my 50th reunion, my plan - I hope I stick to it - is to call or even visit a few good friends I have not stayed in touch with. I also noticed the recurrent trend to picture heroines in TV shows wearing them in the craziest circumstances, i.e a crime scene. I am thinking of Rizzoli & Isles and another show (I forget what it is called) whose main character is also an ME. She never lets go of another glamorous accessory: a huge and very elegant hand-held purse. Quite interesting, as if women had to prove (again) that they can be both professional and sexy! But I've been dealing with a torn miniscus since last summer and lately have had other issues on top of that. But I'm still walking daily. I think the older age thing with these "breakdowns" is two concerns (at least!). One is that it takes so much longer to heal than it used to. Secondly, it is the possibility that it won't heal and that means we have to deal with it for the rest of our lives. I want my knee to heal because I don't want to change my lifestyle and the exercise routine I've grown accustomed to. Or, I want someone to tell me that I need to accept it as permanent so I can go ahead and change what I need to change. But I don't like not knowing!! And I stubbed my toe too... but then had surgery on my shoulder and the pain pills made it so the toe stopped hurting. Now they are both healing well. I used to think this expressed a refusal to get emotionally involved.
